Chapter I - Day-to-day Life I[]

Several days after Kohaku was summoned, she explores the Reflet marketplace with Touya. Using her telepathic link, (an ability that all summoners have with their contracted beasts) she comments to Touya about the large crowd. A while later, they come across Yae, trying to help a lost girl find her mother but is unable to get any useful information out because of her continuous crying. Touya approaches the girl with Kohaku, who calms her down enough to reveal her name: Lim, Touya tries to useSearch to find her mother but the spell turns up nothing. He thinks that perhaps he needs more detail and so with convincing from Kohaku he has Lim describe her mother, however even that yields no results. But just when all hope seems lost Touya figures out that he can use Enchant:Search on his map app to look at a wider area, and they successfully locate Lim’s mother at the town’s guard station. Touya remarks that he probably should have let the town guards handle the situation but thanks to this he had learned some new information about his null spells.

With this new information Touya experiments with his smartphone and null spells, he uses Enchant:Search on his phone map again and with hints of objects in the vicinity is able to see Yae’s home in Hashiba near Oedo on his map with astonishing detail. To see if the enchanted map works on specific people, Yae asks Touya to search for her brother which he locates in her family dojo. Yae speaks fondly of her brother, describing him as gentle by nature but fearsome with a sword, almost obsessive with it sometimes. When Yae starts to blurt out that Touya is very much like the brother that she loves, her face turns red and she mumbles that she meant love like family not the other kind, Touya is unable to understand her flustered words.

Upon returning to Silver Moon, Touya finds out he can use Enchant:Long Sense on his camera app, allowing it to see what Touya can see when using Long Sense himself, and he narrowly avoids peeking on Linze in her room. Linze goes to Touya completely unaware of her near-invasion of privacy and shows him an antique scroll written in ancient language of which she wants Touya to translate. Touya makes another pair of enchanted glasses and gives it to Linze, Linze reads the scroll and learns of an offensive water spell known as Bubble Bomb. She insists that she try casting it but Touya convinces her to wait until tomorrow, Touya internally notes that his newly acquired spells are very criminal in nature.

The next day, Touya brings Linze to an open area in the forest and Linze begins practicing. She repeats the chant over and over without success, eventually exhausting her magic power forcing Touya to bring her to Elze to rest. Linze would continue to attempt the spell again and again for the next few days exhausting her mana every time and still making no notable progress. Wanting to help, Touya and Yumina go to Charlotte in the capital for advice, she tells Touya that her old mentor had a null spell called Transfer, which transfers mana from one person to another. Touya uses this on Linze and thanks to his vast magic reserves, he is able to give enough magical power to Linze that she can keep practicing without tiring out. He later learns that each spell has a has a meaning behind it and people often don’t know what that meaning is. They can however use the name itself to get a close enough idea of what the spell entails to cast it. With this in mind Touya reasons that the enchanted glasses translated the ancient text too literally meaning Linze was unable to visualize Bubble Bomb in order to cast it. Now knowing what to do Touya explains what Bubble Bomb is to Linze and after more practice, Linze is finally able to cast it. Touya notes how powerful Bubble Bomb was in action as well as Linze’s determination

A few days later, Touya brings Elze to Berkut in the capital to buy new gauntlets due to damaging her current ones on a quest they undertook earlier. The shop shows Touya and Elze two pairs of enchanted gauntlets; one was a green defense-oriented pair and the other a red and gold attack-oriented pair. Elze decides to take both of them reasoning that she’ll just mix and match the pairs and keep the excess as spares in case she breaks them again, Elze also assures Touya that it doesn’t matter which hand she uses the gauntlets on since she is a switch-hitter. On the way back Touya buys a gothic lolita style dress for Elze despite her reluctance which ends up looking great on her. The other girls all compliment Elze when she shows it to them but are annoyed that Touya only got clothes for her and demand that he gets new clothes for them too, much to his exasperation.

A while later, Touya receives a letter from King Tristwin saying that he wants to bestow a noble title to Touya. Touya wants to refuse but is worried that it would anger the King, Yumina assures Touya that her father would not force Touya's hand but advises him to formally reject the title in person and so they all head for the capital with Kohaku. They enter the palace via Gate and find the King having tea with General Leon and Olga, after exchanging greetings Olga thanks Touya for clearing her name during the Belfast royal poisoning incident, she is amazed to see Kohaku with Touya, telling him that white tigers were sacred in Mismede, said to be messengers from God. Leon congratulates Touya on his engagement and Touya notices that he, like Elze is carrying gauntlets, Leon reveals that he is a gauntlet fighter in the Belfast military known as “Fire Fist Leon”. Upon hearing this, Elze excitedly recalls stories of Fire Fist Leon’s many exploits and the two bond over their desired weaponry, with Leon inviting her to join army training later which she accepts.

King Tristwin then asks Touya about the title, and when he answers that he rejects it, the King reveals that he expected Touya to decline and admitted that for appearances sake he needed to reward Touya for saving his life and the title was the only thing worthy enough that he could think of. At that moment a very haggard-looking Charlotte bursts into the room pleading Touya to make more of those translating glasses for the rest of her research team and she disappears out of the room as quickly as she came in once he does. Linze is disappointed as she was hoping to talk about magic with her but Leon advises against the idea, citing that Charlotte can get carried away on the subject of magic and unfortunate listeners could be stuck for hours in her lectures. King Tristwin has Touya prepare for the ceremony of his title rejection while the girls opt to watch Elze spar.

At the ceremony, King Tristwin formally accepts Touya’s rejection and instead awards him twenty royal coins, each worth ten platinum coins, as well as a mansion in the capital. They take a look at the place and Yumina and Kohaku immediately take a liking to it. Touya wants all of the girls to live with him but Elze, Linze and Yae believe that only Touya and Yumina should live there as the mansion was likely a gift to help with their engagement. However, Touya nonchalantly tells the trio that he likes them all and there should be no problem living together, causing them to get all flustered and run from Touya. Yumina assures Touya that she will talk with and convince them to accept his arrangement which they all eventually do. Yumina also tells them she will handle the upkeep of the mansion.

Three days later the party moves into the mansion. Yumina hires Laim (the King’s former butler and older brother of Leim) as butler, along with several other staff working under him; including maids Lapis and Cecile, Julio the gardener, his wife Crea as house cook, and guards Thomas and Huck. Touya has the new staff finish furnishing the house when Duke Alfred and his daughter Sue pay him a visit. They congratulate Touya on his engagement and the Duke jokes about marrying his daughter off to Touya as well, Sue’s positive reception to the idea greatly worries Touya so the Duke promises to put the idea aside for the time being. He then reveals that the real reason he came to see Touya was to have him use Gate for King Tristwin to portal to Mismede in order to officiate an alliance with the country. And due to the nature of the spell Touya has to physically travel to Mismede first before the King does which is ten days away from Belfast by carriage, Touya becomes hesitant but the Duke offers to make this an official quest so the party will be rewarded for the effort. Yae is concerned that the vast potential of Gate may make Touya a target but the Duke reassures her that Gate is not infallible as it can be nullified with magic barriers. With their fears eased the party accept the mission and they all discuss the finer details long into the evening, the Duke also tells the group that Olga and her sister Arma will be joining them on their trip.

Chapter II - To the Demi-Human Kingdom[]

Soon, Touya's party and the Strand sisters were heading to Mismede from Belfast, escorted by soldiers from both nations. The group pass the time by playing cards and shogi, Touya also entertains everyone with stories from his world. At some point Lain, a rabbit beastman guard from Mismede hears bandits approaching and warns wolf beastman Garm, captain of the Mismede guard who in turn informs the envoy. Touya locates the bandits on his phone and casts several instances of Paralyze on them through his phone map with Enchant:Multiple. With the bandits down, the captain of the Belfast guard Lyon Blitz (son of Leon Blitz) elects to restrain them and send word for knights in the nearby town to apprehend them in the morning. As they make camp for the night, Touya notes that Lyon seems to hold some feelings for Olga, the girls later scold Touya for being so dense with his own relationships.

Six days later the party arrive in Canaan, there they intend to take a boat across a river to Langley in Mismede where another carriage was waiting. As they wander around town Yumina spots Lyon trying to pick a gift for Olga in the local market. Deciding to help, Touya coaxes Olga’s taste in jewelry out of Arma within earshot of Lyon, enabling him to pick an elius flower hair ornament for Olga. Yumina praises Touya for his efforts but wishes he would get something for her too. Once the travelling party were safely across the river, Olga sends a message to the King of Mismede about their arrival. Lyon gives Olga the elius hair ornament which she happily receives. Kohaku senses that unknown individuals are watching Touya and Yumina, warning them to be on their guard.

The group then head for Eld village, during which Olga explains to Touya that Mismede is a country consisting of seven clans of races, each ruled by a patriarch. The country overall in turn is ruled by the patriarch of the biggest clan, the King of the beastmen with the other patriarchs wielding influence akin to a noble. The vast distance of the journey forces them to make camp for the night. Touya cooks soup from Earth while the girls secretly use Touya’s Gate to portal back to their mansion to wash up. Yumina is slightly nervous of camping out at night but is assured by Kohaku that regular beasts will steer clear once they see her.

As Touya is bringing the girls back to the camp, a black dragon suddenly appears overhead. The Mismedeans worry as dragons do not typically attack anyone aside from those who mean them harm or breach their territory (a sanctuary in the middle of Mismede). Certain that no one has angered the dragons they conclude that this dragon must be a rogue juvenile who ventured out on its own to wreak havoc and thus retaliation from the others should not be expected, they grimly note however that even a juvenile can prove deadly for the best Mismedean soldiers. Touya searches the dragon on his phone and realizes that it is heading for Eld village likely looking for food, with the capability to wipe it out in the process. With little time Touya proposes to portal Yumina and the Strand sisters back to Belfast using a large mirror enchanted with Gate before dealing with the dragon, Garm agrees and the three are safely sent away. Everyone else meanwhile races as fast as they can to Eld village; there they find it in utter chaos, with the villagers running in panic as the dragon lays waste to the land with its flames. Garm immediately orders the soldiers to evacuate the villagers while Touya attempts to lure the dragon away from the village with Linze on Kohaku in her true form.

Once they reach a good distance away Kohaku converses with the dragon, finding out that the dragon merely attacked the village for its own amusement. Now fully resolved to take the dragon out, Touya uses Multiple:Shining Javelin to force the dragon down to the ground, Linze then clips its wings with Aqua Cutter. With the dragon unable to fly, Elze strikes the beast on its side while Yae slashes its right eye, but the dragon’s scales prove too tough for Elze and the dragon breathes another barrage of flames, Touya attempts to behead the dragon with his katana but that fails and Touya’s blade shatters. With seemingly no other course of action to take Touya braces for the dragon’s attack but is saved by a knife thrown onto its left eye causing it to scream and blindly spit flames. Wasting no time Touya uses Slip on the dragon, he then calls Linze to summon an Ice Wall of which he uses Modeling on to make a giant magnifying lens, Touya then casts Multiple:Shining Javelin into the lens creating a single devastating attack right toward the dragon’s heart, and the dragon finally falls.

The group is about to celebrate their victory when a much larger red dragon appears over the group. It apologizes in human speech for the black dragon’s actions and explains that it is the dragon in charge of the dragon sanctuary and flew here hoping to rein in the reckless dragon before it gets itself killed but has seemingly arrived too late. Kohaku speaks to the red dragon, demanding that the Azure Monarch properly discipline her kin, the dragon is surprised that the White Monarch is in servitude to a human but eventually apologizes directly to Touya, Touya accepts but warns that there would not be any second chances to incidents like these and the dragon leaves, Kohaku continues to rant about the Azure Monarch’s supposed negligence. Touya then remembers the girls and turns to find them in complete shock over Touya being able to speak to the red dragon so casually, they ask if he was afraid through all that and when Touya answers no, Yae finds it slightly unfair.

With the black dragon defeated the group spends the rest of the night cleaning up the village. Thankfully no one was killed during the attack but the village was considerably damaged, Lyon asks Touya what he intends to do with the dragon’s corpse as the material from it is highly valued, Touya elects to give it to Eld Village to help rebuild. Solum, chief of Eld village thanks Touya for his generous donation and awards him one of the slain dragon’s horns, suggesting he use it to help replace his broken katana. Exhausted from the fighting, Touya falls asleep out on the grass under a tree, upon waking up he finds himself to his embarrassment resting on Yumina’s lap. He gets up and sees Elze, Linze and Yae sulking, he asks if something happened and they claim it was nothing. Yumina goes to them and says not to grumble over the outcome of rock-paper-scissors. In an attempt to diffuse the tension Touya fashions some silver bracelets based on a design from Earth using Modeling and gives them to the girls of which they happily accept. As they resume their journey to Berge, Mismede's capital city, Olga gives Touya the dagger lodged in the dragon’s left eye which Kohaku confirms was thrown by someone outside of the party who was watching the group.

The party eventually arrive at the capital, Touya notes that it reminded him of a place straight out of Arabian folk tales. The group head for the Royal Palace which resembled the Taj Mahal and finally meet the ruler of Mismede: Beastking Jamukha Blau Mismede, a snow leopard beastman looking to be in his early fifties. King Jamukha is surprised when Yumina introduces herself but she gracefully explains that her presence demonstrates Belfast’s commitment to the alliance, presenting a letter from her father to the Beastking about Belfast’s proposal. The Beastking responds that he will deliberate with his court on the matter and allows the envoy from Belfast to make themselves at home in his residence in the meantime. He then asks Touya about his white-tiger companion to which he confirms that Kohaku is indeed his servant. Impressed, the Beastking challenges Touya to spar with him much to his shock.

King Jamukha’s aides lead Touya to a large arena resembling the Roman Colesseum, Chancellor Glatz, an avian minister with grey wings looking to be in his late forties asks Touya to forgive them and to give it all he’s got as the Beastking always tries to fight anyone that he thinks is strong, to the point that he repeatedly ignores state affairs. Touya picks a wooden sword and heads to the arena. The referee explains the rules, Touya confirms King Jamukha’s eagerness to fight and the duel starts, Touya immediately uses Slip to bring the Beastking down before swiftly charging forward and winning the match. King Jamukha demands a rematch which forbids Touya from using that spell again, promising his court to involve himself more in state affairs. The court agrees and round two begins; this time Touya is slow to cast his elemental spells and is barely able to dodge the Beastking’s attacks. Touya tricks King Jamukha into revealing that the reason for this is his personal null spell Accel which accelerates the caster’s movement, this enables Touya to use Accel himself and attack, and soon the battle quickly escalates as both he and the Beastking square off at supersonic speed. Eventually, Touya surpasses King Jamukha’s speed by combining Accel with Boost and is able to strike him down from behind. Acknowledging Touya’s skill while stating he should rethink his strategies, the Beastking concedes and Touya wins the match. Touya wonders if there is a faster way to cast elemental spells.

Later, Touya attends a small party in formal attire, Lyon approaches him and asks if he has seen Olga. As Touya replies that he has not, Arma along with her father Olba Strand introduce themselves, Touya does likewise and Olba also thinks Touya is from Eashen. Lyon is so nervous about meeting his crush's father that he fumbles his introduction. Touya finds out that Olba is a trader in high value items, and after hearing that Olba was seeking to procure himself a shogi board after learning about it from his elder daughter Olga, Touya subtly sets up a meeting with Olba and Lyon by asking Lyon to bring the shogi set Touya brought during the trip to Olba and play it with him later on.

Touya then heads toward a commotion near the entrance hall and finds that King Jamukha, Olga, Yumina and the rest of the girls have arrived in party attire with Yumina, Elze, Linze and Yae wearing dresses that looked like Indian saris. They compliment Touya's outfit and Touya does likewise, deciding to take a picture of them all with his phone. King Jamukha is curious about the device and Touya tells him it is his null spell that records images to view later, which his Beastliness notes that he knows someone from the Refreese Imperium that has a similar spell. Touya then uses Drawing to print the image onto paper and soon everyone in the room goes up to Touya clamoring for a photograph for themselves. Touya obliges for a while before sneaking out of the party hall for a break.

As Touya sits down to rest, he spots something very unusual: a brown stuffed bear walking down the corridor. The bear looks at Touya and motions for him to follow, at which it leads Touya to a fairy dressed in gothic lolita clothes. She introduces herself as Leen, the matriarch of the fairies, when Touya expresses surprise at this she calmly tells him that fairies live far longer lives than humans, apparently able to halt their ageing at a certain point with Leen herself claiming to be six hundred years old. Leen also introduces the bear that led Touya to her as Paula, an actual stuffed bear brought to life using her null spell Program. Leen gets suspicious when Touya tries to cast Program himself but does not pry any further, she also reveals she was Charlotte's old mentor. She is shocked when Touya reveals he has an aptitude for all elemental magic and asks him to be his disciple which he refuses.

The next day; using the dragon horn, material from the local blacksmith and help from Linze, Touya fashions a black revolver, and usingProgram, he enchants bullets to reload themselves into the gun after they are fired as well as constructing a "blade mode" which transforms the gun into a shortsword on command, he finds he can also apply other spells to the gun when he casts Enchant:Explosionon the bullets. Yumina and Linze are impressed with Touya's gun and request that he make one for them too which he does. When the girls ask, he dubs his new weapon "Brunhild", taken from one of his favourite video games on Earth. Later; while Touya, Yumina and Linze were trying a local dish that is essentially the same as curry on Earth, Kohaku alerts Touya that the same people who were watching them during the dragon fight were at it again, Touya asks Kohaku where they are and when she points them out, Touya uses Boost to quickly reach and apprehend his stalkers, who are revealed to be none other than Lapis and Cecile who aside from working as maids, are members of Belfast’s intelligence unit “Espion” assigned to protect Yumina, Cecile also admits to throwing the dagger at the dragon's eye. The maids fear that they will lose their jobs now that Touya knows their secret but he assures them that he has no issues with their second job and that he still intends to keep them on. Eventually, Touya lets them go and returns to the girls, per the maids’ request, Touya keeps their protection duties a secret from Yumina.

At last the day for the King of Belfast to come to Mismede had arrived. Touya sets up the enchanted mirror in the royal conference room for King Tristwin and his brother Duke Alfred to go through to formally greet King Jamukha and discuss their alliance. Assuming he was not needed anymore, Touya steps out into the hallway and comes across Paula with her creator Leen. She asks Touya again to be his disciple but he turns her down once more, they discuss about Paula and Leen reveals that she had used Progam on her for two hundred years hence the near complete sentience of the bear. Leen also tells Touya that fairies have a higher aptitude for null magic than humans with Leen having access to four null spells, including the aforementioned Program and Transfer as well as Protection, the last of which she uses on Paula to prevent her from weathering with age. Before the two can say anything else Chancellor Glatz calls Touya into the conference room, inside King Tristwin thanks Touya for his services, and after saying his goodbyes to King Jamukha and his court, he and his brother return to Belfast through Touya’s mirror. Touya then reforms the mirror into smaller enchanted mirrors, giving one to the Mismedean court for near-instant communication with Belfast and another to Lyon who intended to stay in Mismede for a while to continue friendly relations. Touya then secretly sends Lapis and Cecile home first with Gate to avoid raising suspicions before returning home with the girls himself. Exhausted from the trip, Touya elects to use the bath and accidentally walks in on the girls already inside the bathroom half-undressed, everybody screams in panic and Elze knocks Touya unconscious. When Touya wakes up the girls scold him long until late in the evening, Touya is barely able to sleep after what he just witnessed.

Chapter III - Day-to-day Life II[]

The next day; since Duke Alfred had made their trip to Mismede an official quest, Touya and the girls head to the capital guild hall to claim their reward. The quest completion enables Touya, Elze, Linze and Yae to rise to Blue rank while Yumina reaches Green rank. The guild also grants those who fought the black dragon the title of "Dragon Slayer" for defeating it, allowing access to a whole bunch of benefits. The girls elect to go shopping while Touya returns home and attempts to manufacture a bicycle from Earth for use, during which Duke Alfred comes over seeking to procure enchanted mirrors from Touya so his wife can talk to her family more quickly, he is curious about Touya's contraption and decides to watch Touya complete it. When the bicycle is built Touya successfully tests it out, Duke Alfred is amazed and excitedly demands that he try it himself, which after several failed attempts he finally succeeds. The girls see the Duke and want to try the bicycle too so Touya makes one for everyone including one for the house staff and one for Sue. Everyone spends the rest of the day trying to ride their bicyles and getting hurt in the process.

The next day; guessing that Duke Alfred will brag about his new bicycle to his brother which will prompt King Tristwin to want one as well, Touya gathers extra material and magically stows it away using a newly-learned null spell called Storageto build with later. He then goes over to Julio happily tending to the mansion garden, Julio's wife Crea then comes up to Touya asking for any lunch requests, she is confused when Touya answers chilled Chinese noodles from Earth so Touya looks up the recipe on his phone and gives it to her. Touya then decides to check out the southern district of Belfast, once there he is about to head to the guild hall when he bumps into a ragged-looking boy, Touya apologizes but the boy rudely replies to watch where he is going and runs off. Peeved, Touya reaches the guild hall to withdraw some funds, when the receptionist asks for his guild card Touya finds that it is missing and realizes the boy from earlier stole it from him along with his wallet.

Using his phone, Touya quickly tracks the boy to a back alley where he finds him being roughed up by two thugs, of which Touya easily deals with using Brunhild with bullets enchanted with Paralyze . The boy thanks Touya for the rescue and agrees to get lunch with Touya, during which he accidently reveals that he is in fact a girl. While they were eating the thief girl introduces herself as Renne, who after losing her parents when she was younger, has spent most of her life in the streets, stealing whatever she can to survive. Wanting to help her, Touya decides to bring Renne home and have her work as a maid in the mansion, Yumina approves after using her mystic eyes on Renne and Laim has her cleaned up and prepared for training, during which Touya notices Renne wearing a peculiar pendant containing a wind spellstone, and decorated with a griffin crest. Touya asks Renne about the pendant and she replies that her father gave it to her to remember her mother but does not know much else. Laim; confirming that no noble from Belfast bears such a crest cannot recognise the pendant, he does note however that griffins are highly regarded in the Regulus Empire, this leads Touya to suspect that Renne may be related to nobility from Regulus.

While Renne is training Touya tells Yae and the twins about what had happened and they too approve of Renne. Yumina then approaches Touya with a message from her father about wanting to try Touya's bicycle as Touya had predicted; Touya quickly crafts the bike and he, Yumina and Elze head the the castle via Gate. Touya gives the bike to King Tristwin and talks to him about Renne in private, the King tells Touya that while the girl needs to be held accountable for her misdemeanors he is willing to impose a lighter sentence if Touya is able to rehabilitate her into polite society again. King Tristwin is troubled however as Renne is only part of a recent uptick in vagrant children in the capital and the King is sure he provided adequate funding to the capital orphanages. Realizing what may be happening King Tristwin immediately has Espion investigate the noble in charge of the orphanages (Baron Sebek) for suspected embezzlement. King Tristwin apologizes to Touya for his negligence and laments the hard work of a king, jokingly wanting a certain someone to marry his daughter and take his place. Touya worriedly tries to think of methods for King Tristwin to produce a successor.

Upon their return from the castle, Laim welcomes them home and informs them that they have visitors who turn out to be Leen and Paula. Touya introduces the fairy matriarch to the others, and they are surprised to learn that Leen is a fairy as they do not see any wings on her, of which Leen reveals she can conceal her wings with Light magic to avoid attracting attention. Leen then reveals that she went to see Touya to ask about the crystal creature he had defeated in the old capital ruins in Belfast because the day Touya left Mismede, a similar kind of creature appeared in the western part of the country through a crack in the air and proceeded to devastate the land killing everyone on sight, with Leen and Mismede's soldiers only able to take the creature down when she destroyed its red core. Leen shows a picture of the creature in Mismede and Touya notes that while the creature they fought resembled a crystal cricket, the one in Mismede looked like a snake with a sharp blade-like tail. Leen also speaks of a tale an elder fairy told her when she was a child of a race of monstrous beasts emerging from nowhere known as the "Phrase"; they were made of pure crystal and were said to be invincible, using their strength they nearly destroyed the world. However the elder fairy says they disappeared from this world almost as quickly as they appeared, Leen suspects that the two creatures that appeared are Phrase but cannot determine for sure. In light of this Touya elects to for now eliminate the creatures as quickly as possible when they appear and Leen agrees, Leen also reveals she will be acting as ambassador in Olga's stead while she is away, and intends to continue her research of the creatures.

Later, Renne with Cecile's guidance tries serving tea for guests for the first time and does a decent job. Once the servants are gone Leen, learning from Charlotte that Touya can use all null spells tells him of a spell named Recall that allows the caster to read people's memories which Leen points out when combined with Gatecan allow Touya to portal to places he hasn't necessarily been to yet. Leen requests Touya to try this combination specifically on Yae in order to travel to a certain ruin in Eashen to investigate. Leen shows Touya how to cast Recall and after some embarassments Touya is able to extract an image of a village shrine near Oedo from Yae, allowing him to open a Gateto that very location.

Interlude I - A Day Off in Mismede[]

A few days after Touya introduced the bicycles, he along with Yumina and Kohaku bring Sue via Gateto Mismede's capital for the first time escorted by Leim and some Belfast knights. Touya initially thinks this might be overkill but remembers that standards of aggressiveness for beastmen are lower than that of regular humans and as such brawls are more prone to occur in Mismede than Belfast hence the need for an armed escort. Sue is eager to look around Berge and collect souvenirs for her parents. She had just picked out a tiger decorated pipe for her father from one shop when Yumina spots Arma walking close by, Touya calls her and she heads over to them, Arma greets the group and tells them that she too was out shopping, Yumina introduces Sue to Arma and the three start chatting away. Kohaku then telepathically informs Touya that she saw Lyon and Olga walking together near the shop, Touya looks outside and sure enough he spots the two of them. Yumina asks Touya what he was looking at and when he points the couple to her, she suspects that they may be on a date. Arma is surprised to find her older sister dating and hastily decides to go after them, Yumina and Sue are curious about the affair as well and follow Arma along with their escorts. With no other choice Touya reluctantly picks up Kohaku and goes after them.

Watching the couple from afar the escorts see Lyon trying in vain to hold Olga's hand and quietly chide their colleague for being so hesitant. Touya notes that both Lyon and Olga were really awkward when it came to deep relationships. When the two finally enter a cafe, Touya reluctantly uses Long Sense via his phone to spy on the couple after Sue and Arma's insistence, through this they see the couple seeming to get along well with Olga even accepting one of Touya's Gateenchanted mirrors from Lyon so they can talk to each other from a distance. This leads some of the escorts to think Lyon should propose now but others disagree, Touya remarks that everyone seems to enjoy watching how this relationship develops.

As the group track the couple to a market Sue goes away to buy some fox masks while Arma continues to stalk her sister, in her haste she bumps straight into King Jamukha himself who is out of the palace in disguise hoping to apprehend some thugs reportedly causing trouble. He inquires what Touya was doing and when he reveals his tailing of Lyon and Olga, the Beastking gets intrigued by the affair and elects to tag along with the group. They find the couple on a bench together and to the knights' exasperation, Lyon yet again tries and fails to hold Olga's hand, King Jamukha too shakes his head at the affair and starts to rant about his youth when the group spots some beastmen destroying a stall and attacking its owner. Touya talks to King Jamukha and he confirms that those beastmen were likely the thugs his Beastliness was after.

Lyon angrily runs toward the thugs, demanding that they stop, one of the thugs refuse and attempts to punch Lyon but he easily dodges and manages to strike him back, this however causes the other thugs to draw their weapons and swarm Lyon. Knowing that Lyon will not last long outnumbered twenty-to-one, Touya takes one of Sue's fox masks and enters the fray alongside King Jamukha, with their help Lyon successfully takes out the criminals. Lyon is grateful for the assistance but easily recognizes Touya from his voice and clothes. Olga also identifies King Jamukha from his scent, causing him to flee, Lyon angrily asks what Touya was doing in Mismede. Deciding to drop the sublety, Touya tells Lyon to be more upfront about his feelings and asks if he truly likes Olga, when Lyon confirms this Touya goes to Olga and asks for her response encouraging her to not be vague about it. She reciprocates the same feelings to Lyon he celebrates in triumph. His colleagues and Arma then reach out to congratulate the couple, accidently revealing they all were following them, Both Lyon and Olga proceed to scold Touya for his shenanigans but are happy to openly be in a relationship. King Jamukha later also receives a scolding from Chancellor Glatz for sneaking out of the palace.

Interlude II - Slime Castle[]

Touya's party and Kohaku are at Zeryll village on a quest from the village mayor to investigate a peculiar castle that had been resided by an eccentric wizard obsessed with monster research specifically slimes, occasionally venturing into Zeryll to procure supplies and research material. However, about a decade ago the wizard had reportedly barricaded himself in his fortress and has not been seen by anyone since. Concerned for the wizard's safety, Zeryll had employed numerous adventurers to check on him but all would return worn and ragged, refusing to give any details of their encounters save for their low opinion of the wizard who lives there. The girls are hesitant to take the quest due to the slimes but concede that the safety of the village is more important and accept.

The party soon reach the castle; once they pass the gate and into the courtyard they immediately confirm that the place does indeed have slimes as a water slime comes out of camouflage and flees from the group, Yumina and Elze cautions everyone to be on their guard. The party peer through the main doors and see an entrance hall with stairs to a second floor. Touya tries to enter but a slime that can change into a metal pot strikes him from above. Linze is surprised as she does not recall any known slime with such abilities, Touya wonders if the wizard had created a new species of slime. He tries to Searchfor the wizard with his phone but yields no results, meaning the wizard either left the castle or has died. The party go through all the rooms at the entrance hall, falling for several pranks of the slimes and finding very little save for shelves of old books with their pages missing (which Touya guesses were likely eaten by green slimes). Linze finds one book still intact written in Ancient magic script, she uses her Readingglasses to see the contents and finds out about numerous slimes that the wizard created including the one that hit Touya, according to the notes however, the wizard seems to have deemed most if not all of the slimes a failed creation.

Taking the book of slimes with them the party decide to explore the second floor, where Touya spots several of the dreaded green slimes, the party try to fight them off but they cannot use more powerful abilities due to the instability of the castle and lesser attacks seem to prove ineffective. Not wanting to get overwhelmed, the party retreat to the second floor where the green slimes suddenly stop their pursuit. Thinking they were safe Elze tries to continue through the second floor but slips on a so-called "lotion slime", causing everyone to fall down the stairs right into the green slimes where they start to eat away at the party's clothes, Kohaku is able to get Touya away from the green slimes and he portals them onto the stairway where they quickly recede from. The girls with their ruined clothes angrily force Touya to look away, Touya eliminates the lotion slime that started this mess and after the girls find some curtains to more appropriately cover themselves the party make their way through the second floor. Throughout that floor they encounter more artificially created slimes which after aligning them with the wizard's book they deduce that the wizard was trying to create a specific slime with the encounters earlier being results of failed attempts due to the fact that slime creation relied a lot on luck as they were creatures of magic. This along with their ability to replicate, meant that there was a potential for hundreds of completely new slimes in the castle that could wreak havoc if let loose, once the girls learn this they consider completely destroying the castle ruins before they leave.

With the second floor cleared, the party slowly proceed upwards to the third floor, carefully checking for any traps along the way. Once they reached the upper floor, the approach a hallway lined with plaster statues of naked women with unusually large breasts. As the party take a closer look, Touya embarrassingly claims he saw the breast of one of the statues move. The girls are skeptical and somewhat disgusted by Touya's words but he swears he wasn't wrong and even touches it to try to prove it, at which the breast falls off the statue and reveals itself to be a "bust slime" that was camouflaged on the statue. Linze reads with little expression that the wizard called it the closest to success but still a failure. After Yumina takes out the bust slime with Cyclone Edge, the party reach the large room at the end of the hallway, there they find the barely clothed remains of the wizard sitting on a couch. As the party wonders how the wizard met his end, Touya spots another book next to the corpse, which seems to detail the wizards last moments where he happily celebrates fufilling every man's dream. As Touya tries to make out what the wizard meant, Yumina spots four life-sized, skin-coloured slimes at the corner of the room. The party watches in horror as the slimes morph into naked replicas of Yumina, Elze, Linze and Yae. Utterly humiliated, the girls try to eliminate them immediately but the forms the slimes took make it hard for Touya to concentrate, finally having enough Yae strikes Touya from behind causing him to lose consciousness. As his eyes close, Touya realizes that the late wizard's dream was to create slimes that would morph into women and fawn over him for the rest of his days.

When Touya wakes up, he finds himself back outside with the girls standing over the castle as it burns to the ground (likely burning all of the slimes with it as well), the girls remark that the scorching is a purge for the greater good. For a while after the incident, everyone in Touya's party is unable to look at each other as their faces would immediately turn red at the memory of their encounters. Inwardly though, Touya thanks the late wizard for setting the pieces that allowed for this incident to happen.

Afterword[]

Good day. It’s me again, Patora Fuyuhara.

It’s been only a short while since the first volume. And here you have the second one already. Isn’t that amazing?

Well, it would be even better if I had anything I could write for this afterword. That’s a bit of a problem here... Alright, what should I talk about... In my mind, this work of mine is meant to be a simple, fun read with a slant toward the comedic, so there are a number of scenes made just to get a few laughs. One of the things I like to use for this purpose is [Slip]. It makes me remember something that happened to me once. It happened when I first went to Yamagata city in the Yamagata prefecture. It was in the middle of winter. I walked down the station stairs, sentimental about finally being there. Then, when I took my first big step into the city, I slipped and fell as if I was in some kind of comedy skit. The snowfall had made the ground icy. I was surprised by what happened to me, then I looked up and saw the people of Yamagata, walking around on the ice as if it was nothing. I honestly thought they were pretty amazing. Now that I think about it, that event might actually be what created [Slip]. Oh, damn. I was talking about something wintery, but this volume isn’t coming out during the winter at all.

Anyway, here’s my special thanks for this time. To Eiji Usatsuka. Thank you for the excellent dressing room scene you drew as the color illustration for this volume. I actually pumped my fist into the air when I saw the rough sketch. To K, thank you so much for taking so many things into consideration for me. To everyone at Hobby Japan’s editorial department and everyone who took part in this and the previous book’s publication, thank you all so much. And to all those who read my work, regardless if it’s this book or the web novel version, you have my deepest gratitude.

- Patora Fuyuhara
